Once again we are offering our "all you need for Christmas" case. As usual we have gone for classic white and red wines and we're also suggesting a sparkling wine from France which we think offers a better quality/price balance than Champagne.
The wines in this case are:
1 bottle Herederos de Argueso Manzanilla San Leon
Our favourite Manzanilla. Bone dry with a tang of salt this is a very refined sherry which is perfect as an aperitif or to accompany spicy nibbles.
Price £13.00
1 bottle Niepoort Senior Tawny Port
The perfect drink for after a meal. Lighter than ruby port it has flavours of candied fruit. Serve it chilled with some blue cheese.
Price £15.40
2 bottles Domaine de Nerleux Crémant de Loire
This blend of Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay has a gentle acidity, lovely aromas of pears and citrus fruit and flavours of warm brioche. It's made in exactly the same way as Champagne and delivers more than you might expect.
Price £13.80
4 bottles 2009 Christophe Cordier Bourgogne Blanc Vieilles Vignes
We have been looking for a well priced white Burgundy for ages and think we've found it here. It's bursting with melon and tropical fruit flavours overlaid with hints of toast and honey. It would go beautifully with smoked salmon or seafood.
Price £15.50
4 bottles 2009 Jean-Luc Colombo Crozes Hermitage Les Fées Brunes
Jean-Luc is one of the stars of the Northern Rhône. Since he started in 1984 in Cornas his reputation has flourished. This wine, made from 100% Syrah, is from a single vineyard and is full and round with flavours of cherries and plums on the palate.
